Will Mayo to be headline Guest Speaker at this years Smuggs Ice Bash!
Holding some of the nations hardest Mixed and Ice routes, as well as significant achievements in the Alpine Arena; Climber and Athlete Will Mayo will present on growing up in Vermont and learning to climb throughout the Northeast. How training local and finding a community in the Northeast helped prepare him for achievements globally in the winter climbing arena.
He has authored and repeated some of the Northeast’s, and North America’s, hardest routes and has been at it for a long time!!! Just thumb through some of New England ice guidebooks and you’ll find his name attached to some of the hardest routes in the region.
Some notable first ascents in the past year or two alone include:
Silohouette – WI6+ M9 (Mt. Evans, CO)
The Ghost – WI6 M10 (Mt. Evans, CO)
Shooting Star – WI7 M9 (Mt. Evans, CO)
Nophobia – M11 (Ghost area, Alberta)
Scorched Granite – AI6 M7 (Mt. Huntington, AK) with Josh Wharton in only 13.5 hrs
Will has been climbing at a high level for a long time. He recently had an article published in Alpinist Magazine, Issue 48, check it out!
He has, arguably, the FA of one of Smuggs’ hardest routes and we’re psyched to have him present this year at the 9th Annual Smuggs Ice Bash.
