Your Locally owned gear store is back. Outdoor Gear Exchange /Gearx.com from downtown Burlington will yet again be supporting the 8th Annual Smuggs Ice Bash. And this year there bringing someone with them, Scarpa. Yup, OGE will be bringing demo boots from one of the top brands in footwear.
Scarpa released a major update to their mountain and technical mountain line of boots a couple seasons ago and these boots have slowly caught on as a worthy boot for the big mountains and competent boots for hard ice and mixed climbing. They’ve lightened the boots, made them warmer and more comfortable to wear; all of which being significant improvements when worrying about fatigue from a long days climbing. Some of the boots we are really excited about from Scarpa are:
The Mont Blanc GTX: The do everything all mountain boot that sure to deliver years of climbing performance while taking a lifetime of abuse. A single boot warm enough for but the coldest days ice climbing around New England.
The Rebel Ultra GTX : Ultralight climbing performance for the alpine. With the high gator, you’re sure to keep the snow out.
The Phantom Guide : A great one boot quiver for the North East and beyond. Not too bulky to inhibit technical ice and mixed climbing, and just warm enough for cold winter ascents of Washington. Light, warm, great climbing performance; Scarpa hit the nail on the head with this one.
Headed on an extended cold weather trip, or prone to cold feet? These next two boots fit the ticket.
The Phantom 6000: Unsurpassed warmth and technical prowess in a double boot built for the alpine. This boot is made for cold, remote alpine climbs in the Canadian Rockies, the Alaskan Range and beyond. Are you a bit more of a traditionalist, or looking for something that can take a lifetime of abuse without breaking the bank, then check out the most trusted plastic boot for the plast decade, The Scarpa Inverno. Don’t be fooled, while this is a double plastic boot suitable for rugged big mountain trips, this boot can also climb WI5 like nobody’s business.
This isn’t all from OGE. They will also be providing a nice warming tent with hot drinks right at the gate like they’ve done in the past. Come by and demo a pair of boots, or grab a hot drink and a snack. They are excited to share their knowledge with you, or just to talk climbing. And remember anything you need for the outdoor’s, Outdoor Gear Exchange has it. With a friendly and knowledgeable staff, they can point you in the right direction either for equipment, or climbs the weekend of the Ice Bash.
